Apart from the key point of sustainability, safety is another key priority to IFR. The company has defined a safety protocol in order to guarantee at 100% the safety and the reliability of the service during each phase of the shipment. The protocol has three main points:
- Terminal Safety
A freight terminal represent the highest risk factor in the multimodal shipments. Risks involve potential damage to shipped goods, to the containers themselves, to the cranes, the rail units and wagons, to loading trucks, and to the most important damages: to individuals.
In order to guarantee the Terminal Safety, IFR has established a safety procedure for the work process, for the control of the goods to be shipped, for the transiting personnel, for the handling of the train entering and exiting the terminal. In addition to that, the Abruzzo Freight Village is monitoring for the terminal safety, adding its contribution to IFR's one.
- Safety during the journey
The second key risk point is represented by the actual journey of a full freight train, including the road transit to/from terminals.
Additional to FAS and Rattenni's standard procedures for the road trucks, IFR and FFSS rail procedures are additional for the rail phase of the journey. All is designed to guarantee that all the regulations are respected and that only qualified staff is handling the processes.
- ADR/Dangerous goods
Constant attention of IFR for the safety of the multimodal service is also extended to the nature of the goods shipped. For the warehousing, handling and shipping of ADR/Dangerous Goods, IFR has a safety protocol and procedures to guarantee the total safety of the service. To the road controls, there is the addition of the ADR/rail controls to the regular service checks.
